HOW TO COMMISSION A PORTRAIT
If you would like to commission a beautiful, hand drawn portrait of your horse, dog or any other furry friend have a read through the process below.
I use the highest quality Faber Castell graphite pencils and pure graphite which garnered approval from the likes of Van Gogh and Goethe.
I mostly work using Faber Castell Polychromos and Caran D'Ache Luminance pencils. Both these sets of pencils have the highest lightfast ratings on the market to give longevity and vibrancy to the artwork.
GRAPHITE OR COLOURED PENCIL
I can offer various choices when it comes to the colour of the paper and I'm happy to discuss this with you so just ask. Typically I work on Canson Drawing Paper which is a 224 gsm naturally white paper with a slightly textured surface. All papers I use are museum quality and acid free to prevent yellowing and degradation of the artwork.
ALL SIZES AVAILABLE
STANDARD A SIZES
I typically offer from A5 up to A1 in A sizes and these are listed on my Price List. I always add an additional 2.5 cm border to these dimensions to allow for framing so the actual paper size you will receive will be an additional 5 cm in height and in width.
I can work to whatever your size requirements are, providing the subject and desired result will fit the dimensions. If you have specific size in mind contact me and we can discuss if it will work and I can provide you a tailored quote.
HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
To book a commission slot I ask for a non-refundable 25% deposit up front. This is to secure your booking and to cover the basic cost of materials needed to create your portrait.
The remaining balance is due on completion of the portrait before it is shipped to you. If you prefer, I can also invoice on a partial payment basis which can be broken down into weekly, bi-weekly or monthly payments, in this instance a minimum of 50% of the price must be paid before the commission is started. I'm more than happy to discuss so please contact me if you have any questions.
I have listed some of the most popular sizes to give you an idea of prices. If you would like a price for a size that's not listed or you have a bespoke size in mind please contact me and I will quote accordingly.
HIGH RESOLUTION IMAGES
I can't stress enough how important it is to provide good reference photos! Sure, I can use some artistic license to work in details that you want added; but if you have chosen to commission a portrait with me because you love the level of detail I put into my work, then you need to provide me with photos that show those details! A photo that was shot on your old nokia phone 10 years ago just won't cut it... sorry!
That being said I appreciate you may have an old favourite photo of your furry friend that you would love made into a portrait but the picture quality is lacking. Providing you can provide me with supporting photos that are good quality I can still create a portrait based upon the composition of your favourite photo.
IF YOU ARE UNSURE ABOUT YOUR PHOTOS CONTACT ME FOR A FREE CONSULTATION
Please note... if you are thinking of using a photo that wasn't taken by you you must ask permission of the copyright owner. For instance if you have a photo of your horse taken at a show by the event photographer you would need to gain their written permission that I can use that photo as a reference for the artwork.
WORK IN PROGRESS
Once I've started work on your portrait you'll be able to view updates via the members area on this website, you'll have private access to your portraits work in progress photos and time-lapse videos. I also regularly post updates on my social media pages Facebook and Instagram which you are welcome to share via your own social media pages; obviously if the commission is a gift for someone and therefore a secret I will refrain from posting anything about it on social media until after it has been gifted.
If you would like to keep the work in progress photos once the portrait is complete they will be made available to you to download via your member profile.
